Fifth Task: Evaluation

Picture
In my point of view, evaluation is an effective way to get a constructive feedback from students or pupils in order to increase the personal teaching. Concerning the New Media class I attended during the last summer term 2011 there is definitely a lot I learned and can evaluate. At the beginning of the semester I was curious and more than interested for what should come in this class and that did not stopped once it started.
First off, we got introduced to different kind of useful tools, some of them I was familiar with, others I did not know anything about beforehand. So I did benefit from certain helpful tools like delicious.com where you can store you bookmarks online.
Continuing throughout the semester we created our own website in order to publish the work we did in class. It took a while for most of us to familiarize ourselves with this new possibility of sharing information. But during the summer term we learned how to use it effectively and where each button and element is.
To get a deeper insight in today’s Media we attended a field trip to a school in Marburg and had a look at their equipment. This was very interesting as this school already had some tools I did not have in my former time at school. Having learned this and other important facts we were able to write a proposal on how to spend 10.000€ and 50.000€ in school for media equipment. I think this is a difficult task as we are still in university but it is also important to think of this as new media is more and more on the way to detach the known tools. For example, there are a lot of whiteboards in circulation which may lead to a detachment of the traditional blackboards some day. If you ask me, this would have both advantages and disadvantages. Whiteboards offer a new kind of teaching and opportunities you might not have with blackboards as saving the work you did directly on a computer, for example. But if you, as a teacher, are in a situation where you just want to make a note of something important and the media tools are switched off, you still may need a blackboard to simply write something down.
Concluding, I can say that I did definitely benefit from the new introductions or deepening of known facts in this class. What I learned is very useful later on when being in school.
